I grew up watching Sesame Street. I learned how to say my números / numbers with Count Dracula, learned to share my room by watching Ernie and Bert, learned it was ok for a niñita/little girl to get angry because of Oscar the Grouch (my fave btw) and so much more! They were my panas/my friends. They shared my life and I shared theirs.
When I had children, I was overjoyed! I finally had a reason to reconnect with my childhood friends and we did.
On those days when life was just crazy or childhood overwhelmed the boys, we sang it away.
Sunny Day
Sweepin’ the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
We learned the answer…
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street
We learned the way…
Come and play
Everything’s A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That’s where we meet
We could meet our friends LIVE at Sesame Place! Even better, we could celebrate Sesame Street’s 30th Birthday along with our Sesame Street pals.
We took a short Amtrak ride, about an hour away. It felt like the song…
It’s a magic carpet ride
Every door will open wide
To happy people like you–
Happy people like
What a beautiful
Sunny Day
Sweepin’ the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
The air did feel sweeter and the people were happier.
We met friends.
We laughed and played.
We hooted, hollered and YES even threw up from riding too many water rides. It felt good!
IT. WAS. FUN.
Yup! We know the song, but most importantly NOW we know the way!
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street…
How to get to…
