I believe education opens doors. For various reasons, it took me almost ten years to obtain my degree. I started before I had my sons, working two jobs to pay for college but it was too hard. When I had my oldest, I realized that I had to make the time to attend college. I had to do it for my family. During those years my oldest, Karl, would join me on my tri-weekly trek. Some teachers did not allow him to sit inside the classroom with me, so many nights you would see a little 5 year old sitting quietly in the hallway playing Power Rangers. Other times, the teachers banned me from class because I could not find a sitter. On those days when I was banned from class, I had to go home and study longer and harder. I didn’t mind doing the extra work but I know that time spent studying could have been spent with my son.
Schools did not offer online classes, during those years. I wish they had. It would have allowed me to study from home, scheduling it around my family life. I would not have had to drop out of school, not just once but several times. I would also have seen my oldest grow up, something which I truly regret missing.

This post really hit home for me. I too struggled in college, but for academic reasons. My daughter Amy was struggling in her AP classes, and I didn’t want the same thing to happen to her. Her tutor Colin from Private School Edge is incredible. I have never seen Amy so confident or prepared for her very own college experience!
