The most critical element of any party is, of course, fun; however, we can’t disregard the importance of memorable mementos that make your parties and gathering stand out from the rest. Thankfully, there are frugal ways to make your gathering sparkle, including making a DIY party favor, pillow box and more from everyday items that you’d normally recycle – like toilet paper rolls.
Below are 3 unique, and easy, to make craft projects that are sure to make your fiesta stand out without breaking the bank. Get creative, have fun and don’t forget an unforgettable DIY keepsake will have your guests talking about your gathering long after it’s ended!
Let’s talk! Which of the three toilet paper roll projects do you like best? Or, if you have another fantastic idea for toilet paper rolls let us know in a comment!
Party Poppers
What you’ll need:
- Cardboard toilet paper rolls
- Cracker Snaps (available online)
- Glue (Suggest glue spray and glue stick)
- Tissue Paper (recommend 20” x 30” in white/cream and at least one additional color)
- Scissors
- Ribbon or twine
- Small toy(s) or gift(s) such as chapstick, puzzles, keychains, temporary tattoos, etc…
- Additional decorations (decorative paper, ribbon, stickers, glitter pens, etc…)
Instructions
- Spray cracker snap with glue and glue it to the inside of the toilet paper roll so that the tabs are sticking out equally on both sides.
- Cut sheet of white/cream tissue paper so that it is approximately 10” wide. (Fold the sheets in half so that it is 20” x 15” and then cut the same sheet down the middle so that it is approximately only 10” x 15” while the sheet is still folded.)
- Place the toilet paper roll (with glued cracker snap) centered along 10” edge of tissue paper.
- Spray toilet paper roll with glue, and then roll the toilet paper roll up in the tissue paper, trying to keep edges as even as possible, creating a 10” tube of tissue paper with the toilet paper roll centered inside the tissue paper. Use glue stick to seal tissue paper edge to the tube when finished.
- Cut sheet of colored tissue paper so that it is approximately 10” wide. (Fold the sheets in half so that it is 20” x 15” and then cut the same sheet down the middle so that it is approximately only 10” x 15” while the sheet is still folded.)
- Place the cream/white tissue tube (with toilet paper roll and cracker snap inside) centered along 10” edge of tissue paper.
- Spray tissue tube / toilet paper roll with glue, and then roll the white / cream tissue tube up in the colored tissue paper, trying to keep edges as even as possible. Use glue stick to seal tissue paper edge to the tube when finished.
- Being careful not to rip the tissue paper, tie-off one end of the tube using ribbon or twine.
- Insert toys or treats into open end of tissue tube and inside of toilet roll.
- Being careful not to rip tissue paper, tie-off remaining open end of tube using ribbon or twine.
- Decorate however you like, using stickers, ribbons, or glitter pens. Express yourself and sparkle on!

Pillow Boxes
What you’ll need:
- Cardboard toilet paper rolls
- Crafting bone folder tool (or knife)
- Scoring or perforating tool
- Protractor or bowl (to trace round edge)
- Decorative paper
- Scissors
- Glue (Recommend glue spray or glue stick)
- Additional decorations (decorative paper, ribbon, stickers, glitter pens, etc…)
Instructions
- Flatten toilet paper roll and, using bone folder (or dull edge of regular knife), score the edges to deepen the creases.
- Line up short toilet paper edge with the lip of a small bowl and, using a perforator or a scoring tool, create a half-oval on the edge of the toilet paper roll. Fold down the perforated or scored oval to create the pillow-box flap. Repeat this step on all four edges of the toilet paper roll.
- Using scissors, cut decorative paper into a rectangle to cover flattened toilet paper roll (approximately 4.5” x 5.5”).
- Spread glue stick over back-side of decorative paper and spritz toilet paper roll with a little glue spray.
- Center toilet paper roll on glue-side of decorative paper, so flattened edge of toilet paper roll is lined-up against 4.5” edge of decorative paper. Cover outside of toilet paper roll with decorative paper and seal edge with glue stick. Tuck edges of decorative paper into end of toilet paper roll.
- Once the glue has dried, fold down the previously perforated or scored box flaps again, so the paper follows the same creasing.
- Decorate pillow box however you’d like using stickers, ribbons, glitter pens, etc…

- Scissors
- Washi (decorative) tape
Instructions
- Cut toilet paper roll into three even pieces to create three rings.
- Wrap washi (or decorative) tape around toilet paper roll segment, covering it completely with decorative tape.
- Repeat wrapping Washi tape on remaining pieces of toilet paper roll to create three separate napkin rings.
