Kmart’s Latina Smart Summer Internship Program

Latina Smart Internship_2013

In 2011, Kmart launched Latina Smart on Facebook. Shortly after, Kmart announced the $25,000 Latina Smart Fund. This year, the program was re-formatted to meet the needs of the ever-changing business landscape for women and minorities, namely Latinas.

Latina Smart’s newest program is an amazing career building opportunity consisting of a ten (10) week PAID internship program. The internship program will expose five (5) interns to the fast- paced corporate world of retail. Interns will gain on-the-job experience, develop industry connections and receive mentorship and career counseling. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers 2011 student survey, paid internships correlate to job-search success and did far better in the job market than their peers without experience. No surprise there!

University students majoring in communications, public relations, business management, marketing, fashion and retail can submit their resume and cover letter to www.kmart.com/latinasmart. On the site, applicants will also have an opportunity to tell Kmart, in 200 words or less, why they are up for the challenge and are the best fit for the program.

Feel free to share the information with others just hurry the cut off date is February 15! Together,we can ensure our children succeed!

International Center of Photography Teen Scholarship Opportunity

Earlier this year my teen, Karl, took a class at the International Center of Photography. As a photographer, he truly enjoyed the experience. He not only learned how to navigate his way in a dark room, he learned how to sharpen his skills behind the lens, was able to network with guest artists and more!

He had such a wonderful experience. The teachers, guest artists and students were very welcoming. As a result, I want to pass along the information to YOU. If you know of a teen who is interested in photography, the International Center of Photography is offering summer scholarships.  Summer scholarship applications are due no later than April 30, 2012. The summer session runs from July 10-August 10.

There are a variety of classes to choose from that are geared to beginners and seasoned pros. They offer black and white and color. They also take class outings throughout New York City! These outings give students an opportunity to shoot photos on a walking tour, take them to an art gallery or on a visit to a museum. At the culmination of the class, students will present their photos in a presentation before family and friends.
