My Teen’s First Date

My sons are 1st generation Latinos. They were born here. I wasn’t. As you can imagine, this has caused some conflict, particularly with dating.

When my oldest was 10, I told him he would not be allowed to date until he was 16 and he never forgot. The day he turned sixteen was HUGE. It was the year he could drive and date. He made sure to remind me too!

I’m sure you can imagine how I felt. Both of those scenarios ran through my head, at the same time that I wanted to run out of the room! It reminded me of the Mastercard commercial:

Driver’s License: $100
First Date: $75
Look of fear on Mom’s Face: Priceless!

I’m sure it was a kodak moment because he started laughing right there!

Thankfully both didn’t occur at the same time. Even better his 1st date was with a young girl who’s Mom was more protective than me! She asked to speak with me, wanted to meet her and reminded me that was her only daughter. I LIKED her!

So where did they go on their 1st date? To my neice’s Sweet Sixteen. And I bet you’ll never guess who was driving!

ME!

Yup, it was a kodak moment. 🙂

I’m glad I don’t have to worry about my child dating for at least another decade, but I’m sure I will feel the same as you!

LOL, about the commercial. They make such a cute couple! Good that her Mom wanted to talk to you first. That says a lot. 🙂

Great picture they are too cute! I’m glad you found an equally concerned mom. I feel bad for those kids who’s mom do not care now a days. Although I’m 1st generation, my parents raised me very old school and I can see myself carrying those traditions.
