Letter to My Sons

I love you.
This is not the quick I love you said at the end of a phone call or shouted as you run off to school. These three words are the ones that stay in your heart forever, long after I am gone. Not because of anything you’ve done or do, although we both know you do a lot, but because of who you are. I need to emphasize that so that you can understand.

You are amazing young men, determined, with giving hearts, full of laughter and life. You’ve grown so much from the young boys you were, sometimes too fast and I apologize for that. I know my being a single Mom has placed a burden on you both.

For that reason, I say stay young, as long as you can, not so much in age but in your heart. Never lose the qualities that allow you to enjoy life, have fun with family and friends and most importantly love God. He is our center, our compass so to speak. As long as He’s guiding you, you will succeed.

Value what’s important, family and friends. Wealth comes and goes but real friends stand the test of time.  Treat everyone with respect, even if they don’t deserve it. Be honest, to yourself and others. Love with abandon, its the only way to love. Forgive the ones who’ve caused you pain, including yourself, and remember we all fail at one time or another. Don’t hold onto petty annoyances, anger or bitterness. Letting go will release you and open doors for bigger and greater things.

Never forget my Loves that you were wonderfully made in the image of Our Father. Should you slip, don’t despair, He holds your right hand.

I am blessed to be called Mom because of you!

I. LOVE. YOU.
Mommy
