I Am Number Four Movie Review

“I am Number 4” , rated PG-13 and starring Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant and Dianna Agron,  is based on Pittacus Lore’s young adult science fiction novel, I Am Number Four. The book spent 6 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list.

The book rights were purchased by DreamWorks Pictures in 2009 and eventually made it into a movie that was released nationwide on February 18, 2011.

Although the movie received a dismal review from the Daily News, my boys and I recommend it. We enjoyed the action and the fast pace. I only noted one curse word, which was uttered by Number Six towards the last 10-15 minutes of the movie. Also, although my sons, ages 16 and 9, were not frightened by the Mogadorians make-up and fighting scenes, some children may be frighten by the Mogadorians, their beasts and fighting scenes.

Below you will find Karl Rivera, my teen’s movie review.

After seeing some great commercials for I Am Number Four, I was ecstatic that my mom had gotten advanced screening tickets. It looked like the type of movie that everyone would be talking about and I was psyched that I would be one of the first to see it.

John, Number 4, is one of nine super-powered aliens that have escaped their planet’s destruction. Along with their protectors, the nine have found a home on Earth but sadly for them the Mogaldorians- their mortal enemies- have followed them and are killing them off in sequential order. One, two and three have been assasinated and John is next.

The movie action and plot combined to make it an intense movie that didn’t seem to slow down. It had extreme action scenes, intermixed with calm moments. Those moments were necessary to create a romantic angle that pulls on your heart strings and makes you hope that Number Four will beat the bad guys and win the girl.

By the end of the movie, its obvious that there is a sequel in the works, at least I hope there is! The movie had too many cliff hangers to end there. I was left wondering about the other four super-powered aliens mentioned in the movie. I felt like I was missing a piece of the alien puzzle. Numbers Four and Six were the only two that were introduced in the movie and Number Six was only included during the last 45 minutes of the movie.

Ultimately, I believe I Am Number Four is the next big sci-fi action series. It has great graphics and a plot to match that should entertain people of all ages.
