Are You a PEO?

Some time ago, I posted the following on my personal Facebook page:

Parenthood prepares you for the business world in ways that school can’t. It teaches you to roll with the punches, manage a variety of personalities, to multitask, and think outside the box. You have to be light on your feet, quick with your wits, and able to function with minimal sleep. You also learn to budget, your time, energy and money in ways that you never thought possible! It’s the ultimate. Many have the equipment to fulfill the tasks but only a few proud few can really hold the title of Mom and Dad. So, pat yourself on the back if you do. You’re part of an elite group, greater than any CEO. You, my friend, are a PEO (LOL), a Parent Executing Order. Wear the acronym with pride!

Single Mom, Funny Parenting Anecdote | Latina On a Mission

The idea of a PEO, aka Parent Executing Order, came about because I have a Tween and a Teen. I’ve learned that raising children requires the ability to laugh at a situation and oneself. And, really, what child doesn’t laugh when discussing peos? Or, better yet comparing a parent to a peo?

So, the next time your child is grumpy, and plain contrary, let them know you are the most audible PEO in the house! After that exclamation, I’m sure they’ll break down in hilarious laughter and regress back to that sweet, happy child you know and love.

Let’s talk! Have you ever used humor to break the tension at home? Share your experience in a comment!

NOTE: To understand the context of the “Are You a PEO?” post, you must know the Spanish translation of PEO. It means fart.

UPDATE: Several readers have emailed me to say that peo is incorrectly spelled and translated. Below are several dictionary translations that support my translation. Also, as Hispanics, we are not a one size fits all (Don’t you love that?!). While some may use one word, another country may use another word to mean the same thing. Perfect example, my cousin, who is Ecuadorian, noted that they use “pedo” where Puerto Ricans use “peo”. What about you? How do you say it?

peo, n.
fart

It is used in this manner vs. pedo, but means the same in some Latin American countries.

Spanish English Dictionary (Granada University, Spain), 7.7 (v.) = fart ; trumpet.
Ex: The longer a fart is held in, the larger the proportion of inert nitrogen it contains, because the other gases tend to be absorbed into the bloodstream through the walls of the intestine.
Ex: I detected at the end of the trumpet that Miley unknowingly added a portion of a wet fart to her final round of trumpeting.

This is a very interesting article. As parents its amazing how we learn to juggle daily tasks. Whether we work or not we all agendas in our heads and every minute is accounted for, but I don’t regret any bit of it. Yes there are times when one needs to sit back and remember to breathe but the best part of being a PEO is the memorable moments and the beautiful smiles on those lil faces.
Ms Latina, the beauty of the Spanish language is that a word can have a different meaning from an Ecuadorian, Puert Rican, Colombian, Argentinean etc.

So I totally don’t feel bad now after reading your title PEO and giggling. Dominicans say peo too! Or my favorite word….follon. I can’t get the accent over the second o but that’s another way of saying it. 🙂 I do believe that motherhood gives you challenges you can easily translate into the workplace!
