5 GREAT Ways to Watch Television Programs for FREE

Recently my boys and I gave up cable as part of a summer challenge I imposed on us (Crazy, I know!). The boys are settling in quite nicely now, but I have to admit I do not want to re-live those first few days without cable again.

We had grumbling, mumbling and lots of crying. The last one was actually from me! I was so missing those quiet moments I had when the boys had cable. It was an adjustment for all of us. But I am happy to say we are much better now.

I’m sure it’s because I cheated a little bit. I actually put it back on so my tween could watch Disney’s Let It Shine. Yes, I know…I’m a wimp but we’re back to no cable again.

We’re doing much better the second time around.

Want to know our secret?

I’ve discovered ways to watch television shows without paying for cable! Using our  iPad, I’m able to connect it to my television and watch shows via:

1.  Aereo – a service that lets you watch (and record) live TV throughout the city. You can sign up for a 90-day FREE trial, and get access to over 20 broadcast channels, 40 hours of remote DVR storage and usage on up to five devices. After the promo, the fee is $12 per month, which is way cheaper than basic cable.

2.  Disney App - You can see FULL episodes from Disney Channel favorites including “Good Luck Charlie,” “Shake It Up” and “Phineas and Ferb,” Disney XD’s “TRON: Uprising,” and Disney Junior’s “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates”. The new WATCH Disney Channel, WATCH Disney XD and WATCH Disney Junior apps are available for FREE from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.

You can also see the above Disney shows online at

3.  ABC Family App- You can see FULL episodes of Pretty Little Liars, Secret Life of the American Teenager, Melissa & Joes, Jane by Design, Bunheads and more. The ABC Family app is available for FREE from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.

You can also see ABC Family shows online at http://beta.abcfamily.go.com

4. Google your fave shows and watch online! I’ve discovered that you can watch almost anything online. In fact, my teen recently discovered our fave show online: Avatar: The Legend of Korra Episodes. You have to view ads but we don’t mind. If the ads bother you, you can purchase the episodes on iTunes; however, I think FREE is better. To watch Avatar: The Legend of Korra Episodes 1-12 click HERE.

5. iTunes- You can download a variety of free episodes from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore . The line-up changes frequently so when you see a show you like, download it quickly.

My New Addiction Part 2

3e1c721eaf_oc_julia_0129r1finout

Earlier this week, I spoke about my addiction. It causes snorting and extreme fits of gaiety. It makes me forget my kids, the telephone, household chores and even that sexy guy who lives next door. Well, maybe not the sexy guy, but it definitely makes me think less of him!

My addiction also reminds me of my younger years, my much crazier, wackier years! Back then I couldn’t focus, I couldn’t sleep well and even tried a few trends that I ahem don’t want to mention.

What’s my addiction you ask?

It’s The New Adventures of Old Christine!

I can’t say it enough how I can relate to this character! In fact, just like her latest episode I think I may have collected a number (or two!) while searching for a good Blockbuster movie! I may not have called them back it was definitely an ego booster! ;)

I also had not just one, but a few friends, that resembled Christine’s best friend Barbara, played by Wanda Sykes. (Thanks Luly, Lydia, Millie and Wanda!) They were honest, sometimes brutally so. They held me up, cause love, or lack of it, can turn a person into a loca/crazy woman!  I tell you women need a Barbara or two in their lives, to balance them out!

What about you do you have a “Barbara” in your life?

Don’t forget to tune in to “The New Adventures of Old Christine”! Its on 5 days a week and in some areas, twice a day (Yes, I watch both episodes – I told you I was addicted!)  Check out http://www.oldchristineweekdays.com/listings/ to find your local show times and don’t forget to tell me if you’ve been watching!

My New Addiction: The New Adventures of Old Christine

I recently started watching “The New Adventures of Old Christine” on television. Although I’m not much of a TV person, I felt myself drawn to this show starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, from Seinfeld.

The comedy is about a divorced working mom who’s juggling the daily stresses of motherhood, work, dating, her son’s new school and maintaining a positive relationship with her ex-husband (Um yeah right!), who’s dating a new pretty younger girlfriend who’s also named Christine. Talk about complications, it’s worse than my 1st pregnancy!

Old Christine’s world is crazy! Not only does she have to deal with her ex-husband Richard (who’s still very much in her life, in spite of the fact that he has a new girlfriend), but she also lives with her brother Matthew while raising her son Richie as a single mom. On top of that, she owns a gym with her best friend Barb, frequently goes on dates, and has to deal with the “meanie-moms” at her son’s private school? Some how, though, Christine manages to juggle it all while making me laugh in the process.

Just like Christine, I’m divorced and juggling the daily stresses of motherhood, my son’s new school and trying to maintain a positive relationship with my ex.  Also like Christine, there was a time when my life was so chaotic that I would call and leave myself messages, just to remind myself of something I had to do. It got to the point where I actually filled up my message box with reminders and, yes, even a few ”I love you! You’re worth it!” messages (HA!) so it was good to see that I wasn’t the only frazzled Mamí out there!

I’m sure there will be many more similarities as I continue to watch the show. Thank goodness because it makes me feel just a tad more normal! If you want to join in my new television addiction, and perhaps tweet it up with me during the show, you can tune in to “The New Adventures of Old Christine” 5 days a week.  Just check out http://www.oldchristineweekdays.com/listings/ to find your local show times.

While you’re on the site, make sure you check out the videos, they are hilarious! I have to admit I could totally relate to the “Surround Yourself with Good Positive People” video. Yup, I admit it, at one point that was definitely me!
