May is Map Update Month for Many GPS Systems

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NAVTEQ. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’ve lived in New York  for most of my adult life. I’m in my territory when I walk the city streets, especially in Manhattan. Driving, however, is another story. For some reason, I used to get lost every single time.

It wasn’t that I didn’t try. I used to call ahead and get turn by turn directions, however, if there was construction and cars were rerouted I would always get lost. I remember when a good friend of mine purchased a new home. I was so excited to visit her in her new place and set a date to go with the boys. She gave me directions, very concise directions mind you, but there was construction in the area. I ended up driving in and out of New Jersey FIVE times. Not only were my nerves shot, but I paid toll each time and used up all my gas.  That month I went and purchased a GPS system. It changed my life!

I’m happy to say I no longer drive in and out of New Jersey trying to visit one of my besties, now I just plug in the address and voilà the turn by turn directions appear. However, until recently, I didn’t realize that we should update our navigation system. NAVTEQ, the company whose technology and maps drive most of the in-car navigation systems and the leading brands of GPS-enabled devices in the US, has designated May as NAVTEQ’s Map Update Month.

Updating your maps has many benefits. It could:

  • help you save up to $200 a year just by using a navigation device *
  • help you drive with confidence
  • help you save time (A traffic enabled GPS device can save you 4 days of driving time*)
  • help you use less fuel
  • reduce your CO2 emissions by 20% just by driving with a GPS device*
  • help maintain the optimum performance from your system
  • help you know better roadside options
