Wordless Wednesday: Authentic Chicharrónes!
by Ms. Latina ~ July 28th, 2009. Filed under: Wordless Wednesday.I love chicharrónes (pork rinds)! They’re one of my favorite munchies … Hmmm could explain my high moderate cholesterol levels but I digress…
Have you ever picked up a bag of these at the corner bodega/store….
Perhaps prettied them up and served them like this…

Well, you’re missing out from the whole experience! Its not authentic unless you get it directly from this….

Now thats some good stuff!!!
Brings back memories of our backyard barbecues! No hot dogs or hamburgers for me, just freshly roasted pernil/pork cooked long enough to make the skin crunchy, with a side helping of rice and peas please!
FYI: The pic of the pig was taken at the Ninth Avenue Fair. It wasn’t fully cooked when we passed so I salivated but didn’t get a single bite! Bummer!

Ay chica, I love chicarrones but not from a bag. I like them freshly cooked. And don’t just give me the meaty chicarrones, I want the skin, the fat. I want it on a tortilla con salsa and cabbage with a little squirt of lemon. Ay dios mio. I am starving now.

I am totally blown away! There are several puerto rican restaurants that I love to eat at and my hubby and I ALWAYS order chiccharones and it NEVER occurred to me that it was pig skin. Thanks for teaching me something new!

There is nothing like a pig roast. The first one I went to was in Hawaii. I went to one about ten years ago where they actually cooked the pig in the ground. I like it the way you have it pictured above.

I’ve only ever been to one pig roast. I was little, and it scared me half to death! LOL!
